The Horn Log: Official Transmissions for Our Weirdcore Podcast

Welcome to the Hill Seventeen communications terminal. You have successfully accessed the Horn Log.

This is the designated municipal frequency for reporting audio anomalies, shifting architecture, and ferry horn sightings within the town limits. If you have been listening to our weirdcore podcast on the public frequency, you already know that Harperbury relies on the vigilance of its residents. When the fog rolls in and the streets rearrange themselves, your voice is what keeps our maps accurate.

What is the Horn Log?

Despite being entirely landlocked and hundreds of miles from the nearest ocean, the deep, echoing sound of a heavy ferry horn is frequently heard echoing through the empty streets of Harperbury.

The Horn Log is our official record of these occurrences, as well as any other liminal or strange events you experience in the dark. The participatory nature of our weirdcore podcast means that the town’s history is written by you. When you leave a transmission, Rowan will document it in Mrs. Wren’s library ledger, and your audio may be broadcast across the valley during a future night shift.

Guidelines for a Safe Broadcast

When contributing to this weirdcore podcast, we ask that you follow standard town protocol. Harperbury is a place of peaceful dread. While the town is unsettling, it is never dangerous. To maintain the sleep-safe atmosphere of our weirdcore podcast, we strictly enforce the following broadcasting rules:

  • No Sudden Noises: Keep your voice low, steady, and close to the receiver. Do not shout, scream, or introduce jarring sound effects into your call.

  • Embrace the Mundane: The best reports focus on quiet, strange details. The smell of a 1990s bowling alley in an empty forest, a streetlamp that flickers in morse code, or a VHS tape that plays memories you haven’t lived yet.

  • Prioritize Rest: The ultimate goal of this station is to help our listeners sleep. Speak as though you are telling a secret to a friend in the dark.

This focus on gentle, nostalgic surrealism is what separates Harperbury from traditional horror. (If you want to understand why leaning into nostalgic, liminal art actually helps soothe an anxious mind, we recommend reading this fascinating psychological overview on the benefits of nostalgia from Psychology Today article on nostalgia and anxiety). This therapeutic approach to the surreal is the core philosophy of our weirdcore podcast.
